Outworld Station Guide

Real builds, real mistakes, real solutions. Every guide based on actual gameplay testing.

You Hit Level 5 and Suddenly Everything Costs Superalloy

Nothing prepares you for the first mid-game wall. You cruise through Levels 1-4 thinking you understand the game. Then Level 5 hits, the station expansion quest requires Superalloy, and you realize you skipped the Refinery research. Now you are stuck grinding basic missions while your friends are building freighters.

Station Levels are not just a number. Each one unlocks specific buildings, new planet biomes, and research tiers. Leveling in the wrong order or skipping the prep work is how you end up at Level 8 with no gas infrastructure and a dead station.

The Short Version

Level 1-4 is tutorial. Level 5-7 is where you build real infrastructure (Refinery, Chemical Processing, Logistics). Level 8-10 is expansion (Freighters, Gas Giants, Antimatter). Level 11-12 is endgame (Crusader ships, final upgrades). Each level requires an expansion quest -- build X rooms, reach Y production, or craft Z items.

Level 1-4: The Tutorial Trap

You cannot mess up Levels 1-4. The game holds your hand. Build rooms, place extractors, connect power. But there is a trap: do not speedrun the level requirements without building infrastructure.

What to Actually Do

LevelBuild PriorityWhy
1Core room + Solar PanelPower first
2Smelter + Storage ChestMaterial processing
3Gas Extractor (Oxygen)Life support + basic chem
4Assembler + 2nd SmelterProduction capacity

Mistake to avoid: Do not skip the Gas Extractor at Level 3 just because oxygen seems fine. You need it for Chemical Synthesis at Level 6, and gas vents take time to set up.

Level 5-7: The Infrastructure Wall

This is where the game separates players who plan from players who panic. Level 5 requires Superalloy, which means you need Titanium and Tungsten mining.

Pre-Level 5 Checklist

  1. Scout a planet with Titanium and Tungsten deposits
  2. Build a mining outpost (see our Remote Mining Outpost Guide)
  3. Set up a Refinery on your main station
  4. Start Superalloy production before you hit Level 5

If you do not prep: You will be at Level 5 with the expansion quest active and no way to complete it. The only way out is to manually mine ore and craft Superalloy piece by piece. This takes hours.

The Level 7 Trap

Level 7 unlocks the Fusion Reactor. It also requires Chemical Processing research. Many players rush to build a Fusion Reactor without setting up the Nitrox supply chain first. Result: the reactor runs for 8 minutes, fuel runs out, and the station blackout cascade begins. See our Nitrox Gas Processing Guide before you build fusion.

Level 8-10: Expansion Mode

Station Level 8 changes everything. You unlock the Planet Scanner, which lets you explore new biomes. You also unlock the Drone Bay for automated logistics.

8Drone Bay, Planet Scanner, Cargo Hub Mk2Gas Giants, Lava WorldsAutomated logistics
9Superalloy Forge, Shipyard, Shield Mk2Ice WorldsShip building
10Antimatter Reactor, Ion Cannon, Chem Synth Mk2Deep SpaceEndgame power

Level 10 Prep (Critical)

Before hitting Level 10, you need:

  • Uranium mining operation (for Antimatter fuel)
  • Superalloy automation (for Ion Cannons)
  • Redundant power (one Fusion Reactor per 500 demand)
  • Radiation Shielding researched

See the Antimatter Power Guide for the exact build requirements.

Real Scenario: How I Got Stuck at Level 5 for 6 Hours

I was playing blind. Hit Level 5, got the expansion quest: “Craft 1 Superalloy.” I had never seen Superalloy. I checked the crafting menu – required Titanium and Tungsten. I had neither. Checked my planet map – no deposits in my starting system.

What I did: Built a tiny ship (basic shuttle), flew to the nearest system, found a planet with both deposits, set up a manual mining camp, and hand-carried ore back through 3 wormhole jumps. Every trip took 15 minutes. It took 6 trips.

What I should have done: Scanned for Titanium and Tungsten during Level 4. Set up a basic mining outpost before hitting Level 5. The expansion quest would have completed in 20 minutes instead of 6 hours.

Level 11-12: Endgame

Level 11 and 12 are the current Early Access cap. They unlock Crusader ships and the final research tiers.
